About

Who runs this site

Zero Sugar AI is written and maintained by a small editorial team. Pages are credited to the team rather than to a named person, and every page that carries a byline says when it was last updated.

We are not a neutral observer of this market. The operator of this site also sells sweetener products, and at present that includes erythritol-based products. Where a page covers something we sell, it says so at the top. Our terms set out how we handle that.

How we check facts

Each sweetener on this site has one record: a structured set of facts covering sweetness, calories, labelling, digestive tolerance, regulatory status in the US and the EU, and the safety evidence. The answer card on each guide and comparison is generated from that record, so a corrected figure reaches every page that shows it at once. The prose around the card is written by hand and is re-checked against the record whenever either one changes.

  • Every fact cites its source and the date we checked it. You can see both on the card, next to the figure.
  • Primary sources first. We cite the regulator’s own document (FDA, EFSA, JECFA, the EU additives register), the regulation itself, or the peer-reviewed paper, not coverage of them. Where we rely on a secondary source for a detail, the record says so.
  • Interests are shown, not buried. Where a study’s authors declare funding or a conflict of interest, we note it next to the study.
  • Disagreements stay visible. When regulators reach different conclusions, or when studies point in different directions, we show both and say which way the evidence currently leans and why.
  • Association is not causation. We say which kind of study a finding comes from, because an observational link, a short-term lab result and a long-term clinical outcome are different things.
  • Inconvenient findings stay in. We will not remove or soften a sourced result because it is bad for a product we sell. Our erythritol coverage reports the published cardiovascular findings in full for that reason.

How pages stay current

Each record has a review date. When a record is re-checked, the “Last updated” date in the page’s byline moves with it, even if the prose did not change. When a review changes a conclusion, the page gets a dated note saying what changed and why.
